Let’s take the next step in securing affordable access to local healthcare, and better support our talented and dedicated local nurses and doctors. In 2022, Watsonville Community Hospital, which has served our community since 1895, nearly closed, following bankruptcy proceedings brought by the previous, for-profit hospital owners. Luckily, with the help of local leaders and our community, the new non-profit district hospital has been implementing a turnaround plan to put it on a path toward financial sustainability – but more remains to be done to ensure our community has access to affordable, high-quality healthcare.

Our local hospital needs assistance to upgrade and renovate facilities, improve emergency room services, and continue to improve the financial health of the hospital and the wellness of our neighbors.

Measure N will:

  • Expand and renovate the emergency room to provide better emergency care and shorter wait times, and meet the growing needs of our community
  • Upgrade imaging systems including X-rays, MRI, and CT scanners
  • Purchase the hospital property, ensuring local control and saving $3 million a year in rent payments, which could then be used to support nurses, doctors, and better healthcare
  • Repair, replace, or upgrade aging and deteriorated roofs, wiring, plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems
  • Modernize the hospital to provide additional local healthcare services, so patients don’t have to travel to other hospitals to get the care they need
  • All funds raised by Measure N will stay right here in our community, subject to independent citizen oversight, and be used to upgrade and improve our local hospital and access to local healthcare. No funds could be taken by the State.
